COURTESY CALL BY THE RURAL ELECTRIFICATION AGENCY TO THE NIGERIAN ELECTRICITY REGULATORY COMMISSION
The Ag. Managing Director/CEO of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), Abba Abubakar Aliyu alongside Executive Director Corporate Services Boyega Ayoade, Executive Director Rural Electrification Fund Doris Uboh and some top Management Staff of the Agency paid a courtesy visit to the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) and were received by the Chairman, Engr. Sanusi Garba and Commissioners of the Commission, at NERC Head office on Friday, 10th May, 2024.
The visit aimed to introduce the new Executive Management of the REA to the NERC team in a bid to strengthen partnership and collaboration between the two organizations while seeking regulatory and sustainability guidance of the NERC on some of REA’s programmes like the Distributed Access through Renewable Energy Scale-Up (DARES) programme, Energizing Education Programme and other programmes.
The Ag. MD/CEO of the REA briefed the NERC Management on the programmes and Initiatives implemented by the REA with a focus on the new DARES programme while highlighting the targets, impact and achievements of the Agency under these programmes. Abba Aliyu also shed more light on the Nigeria Electrification Plan currently being developed which seeks to provide guidance, opportunities, transparency, accountability and sustainability of electrification programmes across the country.
Similarly, REA Executive Management also used the opportunity to discuss collaboration towards funding of the REA to achieve its mandate. The statutory surplus NERC is expected to remit to the Rural Electrification Fund (REF) of the REA was extensively discussed and the organizations agreed to work together towards ensuring this funding source of the REF is continuously remitted as at when due.
The Chairman and Commissioners of NERC congratulated the new Ag. MD and Management of the REA on their appointment and also commended the passion of the team towards improving the socio economic lives of Nigerians through the provision of electricity as mandated by the Federal Government. The NERC Management also commended the work REA is doing through its programmes as well as in engaging State Governments and other critical Stakeholders in the energy space which are all geared towards fostering collaboration and ensuring sustainable projects implementation and growth in the sector. The NERC also pointed REA in the right direction on funding opportunities, scale up of projects and properly guided the REA on regulations and standards expected in projects delivery.
At the end of the engagement the Chairman of NERC thanked the REA on the visit and assured the REA the engagement will continue in order to strengthen collaboration and ensure better service delivery to Nigerians.
