On Monday 24th October 2022, the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) achieved another significant milestone as the agency signed Contract Agreement with five Engineering Procurement & Construction (EPC) firms to begin the implementation of the Energizing Education Programme (EEP) Phase II under the World Bank funded Nigeria Electrification Project (NEP).
The EEP was conceptualized by the Federal Government to provide clean, reliable and sustainable power supply to 37 Federal Universities and 7 associated Teaching Hospitals using renewable energy sources. Funding was fully secured for the 1st Phase through the Green Bond.
While the EEP 1 was implemented in 9 universities and 2 university teaching hospitals (with 7 now fully completed), the EEP 2 will equally deliver on the deployment of solar hybrid power plants in 7 additional Federal Universities and 2 associated Teaching Hospitals.

The EEP aims to provide 37 Federal Universities and 7 affiliated teaching hospitals in Nigeria with access to sustainable, reliable, and Clean Energy. The Programme also aims to address the issue of uninterruptible power supply in tertiary institutions, which has become a major impediment to effective learning, institutional operations, and student residency
Haven achieved great success under the EEP Phase I, which includes the completion of dedicated captive solar hybrid power plants in 7 Federal Universities, the EEP Phase II will see to the development of same in 7 Federal Universities and 2 Teaching Hospitals. Phase I was a crucial learning curve that will ensure the successful and efficient implementation of Phases II and III as well as subsequent phases
