FAMILIARIZATION/ OVERSIGHT VISIT TO THE RURAL ELECTRIFICATION AGENCY BY THE CHAIRMAN AND MEMBERS OF THE SENATE COMMITTEE ON POWER
The Chairman, Senate Committee on Power, Distinguished Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, and other Distinguished Members of the Committee visited the Rural Electrification Agency for a familiarization visit as part of the oversight function of the National Assembly on Tuesday, 23rd April, 2024. The Distinguished Committee were received by the Managing Director/CEO of the Rural Electrification Agency, Abba Abubakar Aliyu and other Management team members of the Agency.
The essence of the visit by the Distinguished Committee is to give the Management of the Agency the opportunity to interact with the Committee members and share the activities, achievements and impact of the Agency through the different programmes and initiatives being implemented. The visit also gives the Distinguished Committee the opportunity to make assessment of the activities of the Agency in order to ensure accountability of resources as well as identify challenges faced in delivering on the mandate given to the Agency so as to provide solutions and make informed decisions.
The Managing Director of REA, gave a presentation on the mandate, programmes and initiatives of the Agency towards electrifying unserved and underserved areas across the country. He highlighted the role REA is playing towards facilitating industrialization and adoption of productive use equipment across the country in order to boost economic activities through the use of renewable energy. He concluded with the impact of the Agency across the country under the various programmes implemented by the Agency.
Over the years, the REA has maintained a close engagement with the National Assemby through various knowledge-driven engagements focused on accelerated impact in the equitable deployment of energy access interventions nationwide.
