As part of the Federal Government of Nigeria’s COVID-19 palliatives being implemented by some key Agencies, the Nigeria Electrification Project (NEP) COVID-19 and Beyond sub-component under Rural Electrification Agency (REA) has deployed 50kW capacity each of containerized solar hybrid systems in 14 healthcare facilities in the South-South region of Nigeria.
The containerized solar hybrid systems were installed by Havenhill Synergy Limited, the qualified company that applied for the installation under the REA-NEP programme financed by World Bank
Installations were carried out at the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital, Nigerian Navy Reference Hospital Calabar, Federal Medical Center Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, Irrua Specialist Hospital, Edo State and Rivers State University Teaching Hospital, Port Harcourt.
Others include, Central Hospital Auchi. Edo State, General Hospital Ikot-Ekpene, Akwa Ibom, Delta State University Teaching Hospital, Oghara, Asaba Specialist Hospital, Delta State, Federal Medical Center Asaba, General Hospital Ogoja. Cross River, University of Calabar Teaching Hospital as well as Ibom Specialist Hospital, Akwa Ibom and Okoloibiri General Hospital in Bayelsa State
The COVID-19 & Beyond initiative will provide;
1. Sustainable and clean power to ITCs as well as PHCs, to power equipment used for testing and treating COVID-19 related cases.
2. A modular design to provide instant basic services for emergency operations.
3. Steady water supply through solar water pump systems for the selected facilities.
4. Retrofitting of electrical appliances within the facilities to energy efficient standards to minimize power consumption.
