About REA
The Rural Electrification Agency (REA) is the Implementing Agency of the Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) under the Federal Ministry of Power tasked with the electrification of unserved and underserved communities to catalyze economic growth and improve quality of life for Nigerians. The Agency was established under section 127 of the Electricity Act 2023.
Vision
Nigeria achieving universal access to affordable and sustainable electricity, thus improving the quality of life and economic opportunities for unserved and underserved communities.
Mission
To provide access to reliable electric power supply for rural dwellers irrespective of where they live and what they do, in a way that would allow for reasonable return on investment through an appropriate tariff that is economically responsive and supportive of the average rural customer.

REA is a Federal Government agency responsible for expanding access to electricity in unserved and underserved communities across Nigeria through sustainable and renewable energy solutions.
REA develops and implements electrification projects, supports private sector participation, and manages programs aimed at increasing electricity access across the country.
REA operates under the Federal Ministry of Power.
REA was first established under the Electric Power Sector Reform Act (EPSRA) 2005 to promote and support rural electrification in Nigeria. Subsequently, the new Electricity Act, 2023 further backed the existence of REA.
