@Biodunogunleye, during a courtesy visit today. Our discussions focused on leveraging Lagos State’s abundant natural resources to deploy Distributed Renewable Energy (DRE) systems across the state.
To ensure Lagos State takes swift and effective action in this direction, we are exploring the organisation of a high-level roundtable. This initiative will bring together Renewable Energy Service Companies (RESCOs), technology providers, and financiers with a combined portfolio of $2 billion. Simultaneously, the Lagos State Government will outline the incentives and opportunities available to attract investment into the state’s energy sector.
You may recall that the REA recently facilitated a similar engagement in partnership with the Katsina State Government, culminating in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on October 24, 2024. With renewable energy at the core of sustainable electricity provision, we recognise the vast potential for collaboration. Our shared goal is to secure Lagos State’s full alignment with the National Electrification Strategy Implementation Plan (NESIP).
To this end, the REA is prepared to provide the necessary implementation framework and demonstrate how sub-national governments can adopt an integrated approach to electrifying critical sectors. This approach will ensure we meet the growing demand for reliable electricity, both for commercial and domestic use. We look forward to a productive partnership with Lagos State as we work towards a brighter, more sustainable energy future for all. Cc
