The Managing Director of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), Ahmad Salihijo Ahmad, joined other global stakeholders in offgrid sector for the official plenary at the 7th Global Off Grid Solar Forum and Expo (GOGSFE) in Kigali, Rwanda on 18th October, 2022.
The MD/CEO did a deep dive on Federal Government’s ongoing energy access efforts as well as the nation’s vibrant investment climate. With focus on the nexus between energy access, climate change commitments and offgrid investment opportunities, Engr. Ahmad shared thoughts on quality control, sustainability, private sector engagement and achievements under the REA.
The REA also led a “Nigeria Session” which focused on opportunities in the sector as well as technologies being leveraged by the Federal Government to power unserved and underserved communities.
While speaking during the session, the MD/CEO said “It was a privilege to officially open the #GOGSFE exhibition rooms today, engaging with a growing community of private sector developers and innovators in the energy sector, alongside Ernest NSABIMANA (PhD. Eng), Rwanda’s Minister of Infrastructure.
Beyond strengthening policies, drawing in investments and encouraging partnerships, research, development and innovation must continue to be at the forefront of energy access efforts in Nigeria as well as the entire African continent. From productive use equipment, to e-mobility, smart metering and everything in between, dogged innovators have continued to push the envelope across Africa. At REA Nigeria, we understand the role of research and innovation. This is why we activated a hub targeted at that.”
The REA also gave a snapshot of the implementation of World Bank and African Development Bank funded NIgeria Electrification Project (NEP).
