REA Receives Pioneer Commissioner of Jigawa State Ministry of Power and Energy, as Agency Provides Insight on Energy Investment
On the 24th of September 2024, the MD/CEO of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) received the delegation from the newly commissioned Jigawa State Ministry of Power and Energy, established by His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Jigawa State, Mal. Umar A. Namadi FCA is in line with the recommendations of the 2023/24 Electricity Act. The Ministry is tasked with the development and implementation of policies related to electricity, renewable and non-renewable energies, energy efficiency, and ensuring adequate and reliable electricity supply in the state.
Over the years, the REA has maintained a close-knit, strategic engagement with State Governments, through the Nigeria Governors' Forum (NGF) for the targeted deployment of energy access interventions across the 36 states + the FCT. In the optimization of its mandate, the REA remains committed to supporting subnational initiatives to ensure the successful implementation of the Electricity Act 2023
The REA Executive Management, led by the MD/CEO, Abba Abubakar Aliyu, assured the Ministry of the Agency's readiness to explore transformative opportunities with the State. Abba Abubakar explained that it is essential for the State Government to align with the Federal Government’s comprehensive electrification plan and design incentives that encourage Renewable Energy Service Companies (RESCOs) to see Jigawa as an economically viable and conducive place for investment.
Engr. Surajo A. Musa, and his team, while commending the REA’s nationwide impact footprint explained that the Ministry's strategic direction and initiatives is to deliver on His Excellency’s vision of state-wide electrification, leveraging Jigawa’s vast land, abundant solar radiation, and secure environment position, good for solar energy deployment.
The REA’s executive management team expressed the Agency’s delight on the State's plan to host the first State-sponsored Renewable Energy Service Companies (RESCOs) Roundtable, an event that will be a key opportunity to showcase the state’s potential, policies, and incentives, creating a pathway for private sector investment in electrifying Jigawa’s communities.
