The MD/CEO and team paid a courtesy call to His Excellency, Vice President Kashim Shettima where the MD/CEO presented the National Electrification Strategy and Implementation Plan (NESIP) to His Excellency, Vice President. The Executive Director, Technical Services also presented the REA’s 2023 Capital Projects implementation report to the VP.
The REA Executive Management team briefed the Vice-President on the Agency's sustained efforts for improved investment and funding for the Scale-up of energy access projects in Nigeria, including the Agency's role in securing a $750 million World Bank Grant for the implementation of the Distributed Access through Renewable Energy Scale-up (DARES) Programme. DARES, the biggest public sector-funded energy access programme, is scheduled to kick off this year.rural electrification project.
The Team briefed the Vice-President on the ongoing implementation of the Agency's transformative programme, the phase 2 of the Energizing Education Programme (EEP), designed to provide clean, sustainable energy to Federal Universities and University Teaching Hospitals. The largest of the EEP 2 projects is a 12MW solar hybrid power plant nearing completion in University of Maiduguri
Following the Agency’s request to partner with the National Economic Council (NEC) on rural electrification projects across the country, the Vice President granted the request, which will enable deeper level coordination between the REA, the NEC as well as the Nigeria Governors' Forum. The REA will leverage this coordinated approach to improve energy access penetration in rural areas
