The REA Presented its 2023 Capital Projects Impact Report as the Agency Reinforces its Transparency, Monitoring, and Evaluation Mechanisms for Accountable and Equitable Project Delivery Nationwide.
The REA Management, led by the MD/CEO, Abba Aliyu , at a press briefing at the REA Headquarters, presented the Report to the media. Leveraging a mix of off-grid energy solutions and technologies, including solar hybrid mini-grids, EV charging stations, solar home systems, solar-powered irrigation pumps and solar streetlights, the Agency, through its 2023 Capital Projects Report has impacted 1, 400, 000 Nigerians across the 6 geopolitical zones.
Abba Aliyu, while addressing the media, explained that the Agency do not solely rely on just the Federal Government budgeting as the government alone cannot address the energy gap in country. This is why, beyond the Capital Projects Implementation, the REA has sustained its optimization of innovative funding sources for the impactful implementation of various programmes and initiatives, including the recently secured, World Bank -funded Distributed Access through Renewable Energy Scale-up (DARES) programme, a $750 Million programme and the biggest public sector-funded energy access programme.
REA’s Executive Director, Technical Services, Umar Abdullahi Umar, while presenting the impact snapshots, noted that the REA continues to optimize different technology types to meet the unique needs of beneficiary communities; a data-driven approach to project implementation. 447 Projects were captured under the 2023 Capital Projects, equitably distributed across the 6 geopolitical zones, impacting all 36 states + the FCT.
Beneficiaries includes farm clusters, benefiting from the innovative solar-powered irrigation pumps for agricultural productivity, homes, communities, markets, community schools, and border posts.
