REA Activates a Combined 200KWP Capacity Solar Mini Grids in Edo State Communities.

Edo State, Nigeria – The Federal Government of Nigeria, through the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), commissioned Two (2) solar hybrid mini grids of 100kWp each at Oloyan community in Ovia South LGA and Sule Camp community in Ovia North East LGA of Edo State respectively. The projects, expected to improve the socio economic conditions of the people in these communities were completed under the Rural Electrification Fund – Call 2 programme of the Rural Electrification Agency.
The Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary Edo State Electrification Agency, Engr. Osazuwa Ozigbo-Esere, stated “I would like to begin by commending the Rural Electrification Agency for its unwavering commitment to bringing sustainable energy solutions to our communities. This is not the first mini-grid to be deployed in Edo State and, from the impact recorded so far, I am confident this will not be the last. It is quite impressive and a thing of pride to have you here to commission not one but two solar hybrid mini-grids in two different communities, with a total capacity of 200kWp.”
The REA Managing Director/CEO, Abba Abubakar Aliyu ably represented by the Executive Director, Rural Electrification Fund, Engr. Doris Uboh, stated “These projects are some of the many testaments of the work that we do at the REA, connecting last-mile communities to clean, sustainable energy sources and facilitating the growth of socioeconomic systems through productive use. We will continue working to leave no community behind”
The Developers of the two projects expressed appreciation to the Federal Government, Edo State Government, the Rural Electrification Agency as well as the communities for their support and cooperation towards the successful implementation and operation of the deployed solar mini grids.
Also, the Honourable Chairman of Ovia South and Ovia North East Local Governments as well as the Community Leaders of Oloyan and Sule Camp communities expressed gratitude to the Federal Government and the implementers of these Projects for finding their communities worthy to provide this kind of infrastructure which will improve their livelihoods. They further committed to ensuring the safety and security of the infrastructure.

The Rural Electrification Agency (REA) is the Implementing Agency of the Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) under the Federal Ministry of Power tasked with the electrification of unserved and underserved communities to catalyze economic growth and improve quality of life for Nigerians.
