REA COMMENCES SITE HANDOVER TO EPC CONTRACTORS FOR EEP PHASE II PROJECTS
Following the 3rd Stakeholders’ Engagement Forum (SEF) for the Energizing Education Programme Phase II (“EEP II”) under the Nigeria Electrification Project (NEP) being implemented by the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), the REA has commenced the site handover to the EPC Contractors who signed contracts for the Development of Solar Hybrid Power Systems across the seven (7) selected Federal Institutions and two (2) affiliated university teaching hospitals under the EEP II.
The project site at University of Abuja (Giri Campus) was the first to be handed over and this was carried out by the REA Team in collaboration with the EPC Contractor (“Contractor”) and the management of University of Abuja on Tuesday, 13th December 2022.
The team were received by the Vice Chancellor (VC), Prof. Abdul Rasheed Na’Allah who expressed his enthusiasm and assured the Team of the University’s support at all times. He further appealed to the EPC contractor to cooperate with the students by answering any form of questions in respect of implementation of the project and assured the Contractor that disciplinary action will be taken against any student who misbehaves while on the project site.
In their response, both the REA team lead and the EPC Contractor expressed their commitment to ensuring capacity building for the students and assured the VC of their willingness to build a very good working relationship with staff and students of the university in the course of project implementation.
At the end of the briefing the REA Team Lead, Engr. Timothy Shekarau, on behalf of the MD/CEO REA, Engr. Ahmad Salihijo Ahmad, handed over project documents (such as the Environmental Impact Assessment certificate, approved perimeter survey, layout details etc.) to the EPC contractor and the university’s management. Thereafter, the site handover forms were completed and signed by the university, REA and the Contractor to signify the official handover and commencement of the construction phase of the EEP II.
Other EEP II project sites to be handed over before the end of the year include University of Calabar and Teaching hospital, University of Maiduguri and Teaching hospital, Federal University of Gashua, Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike, Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta and the Nigerian Defence Academy (Afaka Campus), Kaduna.
