USAID Power Africa to Explore Impact Opportunities with REA on Powering Healthcare The REA, led by Engr. Ahmad Salihijo, the Agency's MD/CEO, received the Power Africa team at the REA Headquarters in Abuja where both institutions convened an engaging and knowledge-driven session with a focus on exploring the nexus between sustainable energy access and quality healthcare services, SDG7 and SDG3, respectively. While commending the REA's innovative healthcare-focused interventions, which has enabled the Agency to provide sustainable, renewable energy to over 200 healthcare institutions across the nation, including 100 treatment and isolation centers (ITCs) under the Nigeria Electrification Project (NEP), the Power Africa team shared insights on the Health Electrification and Telecommunications Alliance (HETA), Power Africa's flagship program for health facility electrification and digital connectivity in sub-Saharan Africa. Through the efforts of USAID, HETA is aimed at aligning Power Africa and the private sector to improve energy access and digital connectivity in health facilities in a bid to increase access to quality health services for all Nigerians, while accelerating progress towards national health and energy goals. The REA continues to optimize its mandate and its data-driven 5-year strategy to ameliorate pain points across different sectors. The agency’s focus for the healthcare sector is the provision of clean energy to decommission diesel-powered generating sets; improve the quality of health services; cut down on administrative costs of health institutions; aid sustained storage of cold chain medications and provide sufficient energy to sustainably power critical loads in healthcare institutions.
