The Rockefeller Foundation today announced the launch of the Global Commission to End Energy Poverty (GCEEP). The Commission will drive a new agenda to provide electricity to hundreds of millions in pursuit of the UN’s 2030 Sustainable Development Goal 7.
The commission is co-chaired by Ernest J. Moniz, Professor of Physics & Engineering Systems Emeritus MIT, and former U.S. Secretary of Energy; President of the Rockefeller Foundation and former USAID Administrator Dr. Rajiv J. Shah; and Africa Development Bank President Akinwumi Adesina.

Kebbi, Nigeria – The Federal Government of Nigeria, through its Implementing Agency – Rural Electrification Agency (REA) commissioned a 98.8KW solar hybrid mini grid power plant at Kare-Dadin Kowa, Kebbi State, under its Rural Electrification Fund (REF), as part of its commitment to provide equitable access to electricity across regions in Nigeria.
The Governor of Kebbi State, Abubakar Bagudu, has said the new solar hybrid mini-grid built by the Federal Government will expand and transform the economic landscape of the state,
He stated that small businesses like welders, cold rooms, as well as processing mills can now operate more effectively with reliable and clean electricity as a result of this project.

In adherence to global best practices in the provision of cleaner and sustainable sources of energy, as well as fulfilling Nigeria’s commitment to the Paris Agreement on Climate Change to reduce carbon footprint, the federal government recently inaugurated the 7.1MW power plant, the largest off-grid Solar Hybrid plant in Africa at Bayero University, Kano, under the Energising Education Programme, Funke Olaode who was in Kano reports
