GLOBAL LEADERS LAUNCH GROUNDBREAKING COMMISSION TO ELIMINATE ENERGY POVERTY AMONG 840 MILLION PEOPLE WORLDWIDE

The Rockefeller Foundation today announced the launch of the Global Commission to End Energy Poverty (GCEEP). The Commission will drive a new agenda to provide electricity to hundreds of millions in pursuit of the UN’s 2030 Sustainable Development Goal 7.

The commission is co-chaired by Ernest J. Moniz, Professor of Physics & Engineering Systems Emeritus MIT, and former U.S. Secretary of Energy; President of the Rockefeller Foundation and former USAID Administrator Dr. Rajiv J. Shah; and Africa Development Bank President Akinwumi Adesina.

A ‘Stellar Stewardship of the REA: Letter of Credence’ from the Civil Society Board was presented to MD/CEO, REA by the President of Civil Society Network for Good Governance during a courtesy visit by a delegation headed by the President, Adefila Kamal on Wednesday, 25th September, 2019.

The Letter of Credence was received by Assistant Director and Head of Media, Muntari Ibrahim, on behalf of the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer.

The Governor of Kebbi State, Abubakar Bagudu, has said the new solar hybrid mini-grid built by the Federal Government will expand and transform the economic landscape of the state,

He stated that small businesses like welders, cold rooms, as well as processing mills can now operate more effectively with reliable and clean electricity as a result of this project.
