EEP Phase 1 Universities

Bayero University Kano was founded in 1975. The University’s governing bodies are the University Council and the Senate. The university was initially named Bayero University College before being upgraded to Bayero University. As at July 2016, the total population of the University for both Undergraduate, Post graduate, Academic and Non-academic staff, as at July 2016 was 31,462.

Bayero University is located in Kano, The main campus is being powered by the Energizing Education Programme. It is situated on a 1,369 hectares located along the Gwarzo Road, Kano.

2.  Topographical survey and geographical investigations have been conducted and the report has been submitted and approved by REA

3.  Fencing works has been completed.

4.  Procurement for equipment has been done and awaiting shipping as site is on a fast-  track.

5.  Factory acceptance test for diesel generators has been completed

6.  Internal road preparation on-going

The University of Agriculture, Makurdi came into effect from January 1988. The University’s governing bodies are the University Council and the Senate. The University campus comprises of the North core, Middle core and South core. The University of Agriculture, Makurdi is situated on 8,000 hectares with coordinates 7°47’29.1″N 8°37’15.7”E. It is located on the Makurdi – Lafia road in Makurdi, the capital of Benue State, in North-Central Nigeria, about 300 Kilometers to the southeast of Abuja, Nigeria’s Federal Capital.

The Campus is located north of the River Benue, near the township of Makurdi North. As at July 2016, the combined population of both students and staff on campus was 17,864.

The Federal University of Petroleum Resources Effurun was founded in 2007. The University’s governing bodies are the University Council and the Senate. In January 2006, the Federal Government approved the takeoff of the college of petroleum and gas engineering of the University of Benin at Effurun, near Warri in Delta Sate. It was later upgraded to a full-fledged university in the year 2007.

The University is located at Ugbomro, Uvwie Local Government Area, along warri-Port Harcourt Road, before Agbarho Bridge. The University Campus covers 163,151 hectares of land with coordinates 5°34’21.9″N 5°50’29.8″E. The campus is not as swampy as the other parts of Warri areas. As at July 2016, the population of the University for undergraduate and members of staff totaled 4,000.

Federal University Ndufu-Alike Ikwo is a modern University established in 2011 and is located in the serene agricultural environment of Ikwo in Ebonyi State, South East Geopolitical zone of Nigeria. Fondly called FUNAI, the University prides itself as the Home of Soaring Eagles, after its totem bird, the eagle, whose soaring image is prominent on the University logo. In 2011 the University initially took over the facilities of Government girls college Ndufu – Alike. After the take over, the University acquired additional land space to create the permanent site in its present form.

The main campus of The Federal University, Ndufu-Alike Ikwo (FUNAI) is situated on 435.72 hectares with coordinates 6°08’10.2″N 8°08’46.8″E, and is located along the Major road to IKWO. The University began operations with only a takeoff site but soon expanded to a permanent site. The permanent site is an extension of the takeoff site with the two campuses within the same location being powered by the Energizing Education Programme.

The University administrative staff are currently operating from the permanent site and the female students are currently living in the hostels situated at the permanent site. As at July 2016, the combined population of both students and staff on campus was 3,590

1. Site clearing has been completed with internal access road 50% complete

2. Topographical survey and geotechnical investigations has been submitted and approved by REA.

3. Project Site Office has been positioned to Site

4. Fencing activities has been completed.

5. Street lighting materials have been delivered to site

3. Final vendors for major equipment have been determined by the Contractor and a Purchase Order has been sent for the some of the equipment such as the batteries and the inverter system.

4. Equipment foundation has commenced.

5. Factory acceptance test for diesel generators has been completed

• Surveys and soil investigations have been completed in all 9 sites.

• Detailed design are drawings are undergoing reviews while about 55% has been approved.

• Civil construction has commenced in all the sites.

• Fencing works have been fully completed in 5 out of 9 sites.

• Orders have been placed with equipment requirement of fast tracked project ready for shipment

• The project sites on fast track include FUNAI & BUK

• Ongoing review and approval of the detailed designs

• Ongoing civil construction works

• ‘Due payments upon the completion of milestones have been made to the Contractors from the Sovereign Green Bond and the Federal Government

• MOUs were signed between REA and the Phase 1 Universities

• Certificates of No Objection to Award Contracts were granted by the BPP

• FEC approval for same was granted

• Captive Permits were issued by NERC for all 9 Phase 1 projects

• Land surveys for all project sites were certified by the surveyor general

• Received approved EIA’s for all sites from  the Fed. Min. of Environment

• Executed EPC and O&M Contracts with METKA West Africa and Sterling & Wilson Nigeria
