President Muhammadu Buhari will soon inaugurate a one megawatt solar power plant that the Federal Government built at Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike Ikwo, in Ebonyi State.
The Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, said this on Monday during his inspection of projects being implemented by the Rural Electrification Agency.
Fashola said, “We are few weeks to closure and I am sure when this is done, the President will be here to switch it on.
“This megawatt solar plant is for the university. It also comes with eight kilometres of streetlight. As you heard from project head here, they have installed 3,500 solar panels.
“Also, over 9,000 people have been employed since the project started.; students were involved.”
The power minister said the initiative was one of the policies of the Federal Government to break down access to power, especially in rural communities
