On Thursday, January 26th 2023, the Executive Director of the Angola, Nigeria and South Africa (ANSA) Constituency of the World Bank, Ayanda DloDlo, visited Kilankwa II, a settlement in Kwali Area Council of FCT, Abuja. Accompanied by dignitaries from the Federal Ministry of Finance, the Executive Director of Technical Services of Rural Electrification Agency (REA), the Head Project Management Unit (PMU) and teams from the World Bank and REA. The team was received by Mr. Ayuba Hassan Leda on behalf of the Community Leader.
The purpose of the visit was to inspect a Performance Based Grant (PBG) project of the Nigeria Electrification Project (NEP), which is being administered by REA and funded by World Bank loan. Kilankwa II is a settlement in Kwali area council of FCT, Abuja with about 294 households and 46 MSMEs. It has a population of about 1,386 with farming being the main economic activity
The 60kw capacity project has been a huge benefit to the community, positively impacting the lives of 1,020 people, including over 200 households, 8 MSMEs, and 8 public facilities. During the visit, the team heard inspiring stories from beneficiaries of the solar power, now able to access cold water, watch TV and power their businesses. The group also visited tailoring shop, a rice mill, and a trader shop, all of which have been positively impacted by the project.
