IT’S A DOUBLE MILESTONE ACHIEVEMENT AT REA/NEP PROJECT MANAGEMENT UNIT OFFICE
The Nigeria Electrification Project’s (NEP) Project Management Unit (PMU)of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) on Thursday, 10th February 2022 achieved two major milestones which are; the signing of grant agreement with a qualified company under the Performance Based Grant (PBG) subcomponent of the Solar Hybrid Mini Grids Component and the public opening ceremony of technical proposals submitted by Initially Selected companies under the Energizing Education Programme (EEP) Phase II Component of the NEP.
Messrs Everlink Telesat Network Limited, a renewable energy company that qualified under the PBG will provide clean, reliable and affordable power to 2,494 households and MSMEs with an installed capacity of 360KW in Tamigbe community, Delta State.
The grant agreement signing was presided over by the Head Project Management Unit (HPMU)-NEP, Anita Otubu on behalf of the REA Managing Director/CEO, Ahmad Salihijo Ahmad at the NEP office in Abuja.
Mrs. Otubu congratulated the company on their qualification and assured them of the NEP’s full support in their course of executing the project. She further advised the developer to ensure the use of standard materials in the construction of the mini grid while also ensuring adherence to completion of the project within record time to provide the community with electricity that will drive development and improve their overall standard of living. .
In response, the Managing Director/CEO of the Company, Engr. Omayuo, who led some members of the company’s management staff expressed delight and assured the PMU of their commitment towards deploying a quality job. With regards project completion timeline, he noted that the company aims to complete the project by the second quarter of the year.
Similarly, the HPMU coordinated the Opening of Technical Proposals of the Initially Selected proposers who were issued the Request for Proposals (RfP) on the 25th November 2021 towards procurement of the Engineering Procurement and Construction Contractors (EPCCs) for the development of captive solar hybrid power systems to tertiary institutions under the EEP Phase II.
As previously reported, One Hundred and Fourteen (114) companies applied during the initial selection stage and only Nineteen (19) companies were issued the RfP having being shortlisted. This information was published in two national dailies (Guardian and Punch) Newspapers as well as the Federal Tenders Journal on 9th October 2019.
Eleven (11) companies out of the Nineteen (19) Initially Selected proposers submitted technical and financial proposals (both in soft and hard copies) at the NEP office. The submitted proposals will be evaluated and successful companies will be awarded EPC contracts to develop captive solar hybrid power systems of approximately 32megawatts capacity and a world class renewable energy Workshop and Training Centre (WTC) in the Seven (7) selected Federal Universities and Two (2) affiliated Teaching Hospitals under the EEP Phase II. Also included in the scope of work for the EPCC is the rehabilitation of existing distribution networks and provision/rehabilitation of street lights within the institutions to facilitate a safe and secured learning environment for student and staff of the beneficiary institutions.
In attendance at both events were; the Head, Project Management Unit, Component Leads, members of the REA, various teams within the NEP PMU, as well as developers and representatives of the Initially Selected companies.
