#IWD2023 – #DigitALL. The call for gender balancing and equity in the workplace and in every space is valid today as always. The inclusion of women within systems and the availability of equitable opportunities makes institutions, communities and critical sectors function better.
As we celebrate the #InternationalWomenDay today while calling for a wider inclusion of women in innovation and technology for equality, we must realize that more can be done to harness the expertise and intelligence of women across sectors.
Currently, women make up about 32% of the world’s renewable energy workforce. For other technology-based sectors and professions, data shows even lower percentage of women inclusion. At @TheREANigeria, we understand the critical role women play even in “male-dominated” sectors. This is why we have an active Gender Mainstreaming programme as well as a female-only STEM programme designed to pull in more female professionals into the renewable energy sector.
So far, over 80 of these women have been trained and certified over there years, many of them now holding technical positions across the renewable energy ecosystem. We continue to celebrate every woman and girl child exploring digital and technology-based opportunities:Within the REA as an Institution, we equally have a growing number of female professionals heading key roles, delivering impact and facilitating growth just as we deliberately target some of the Agency’s interventions towards women.
Together, we can do much more by leveraging technology, innovation and digital education to build a more equitable world where women are further enabled and empowered to deliver.
