The Vice-Chancellor, University of Lagos, Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, has disowned a statement credited to him by a national newspaper on the 8.03 Mega Watt (MW) gas power plant project that Rural Electrification Agency (REA) is implementing under its Energize Education Project (EEP) at its main campus in Akoka.
According to a statement issued by the university and signed Mrs. Taiwo Oloyede, Principal Assistant Registrar, Communication Unit, the Vice Chancellor was alleged to have said, “people implementing the project have a major problem. I don’t think they have done up to 5 per cent of the work…”
The institution refuted the statement, saying the VC never made such proclamation.
The statement read, “The Vice-Chancellor hereby states that what he told the representatives of the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) was that the terrain of the University is not friendly, hence, the slow progress of the 8.03 Mega Watt (MW) gas power plant project being implemented by the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) under its Energizing Education Programme (EEP).
“In spite of the challenge posed by the terrain, the University will continue to work with the agency to ensure the project is completed in good time’,” the statement added.
