The Technology and Innovation Expo formerly known as the National Science and Technology Week (NASTECH) is a statutory annual event aimed at creating awareness in Science and Technology and showcasing achievements in the sector.
The Technology and Innovation Expo, which is 3 years old, is Nigeria’s most important science and technology exhibition and conference with exhibits from many of the country’s most innovative individuals and companies in the technology industry and a must-attend industry event. Visitors, exhibitors, and expo delegates l enjoyed networking opportunities unrivaled within the technology sector.
The Expo kicked off the opening ceremony with an exhibition where President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari was taken round some of the stands for inspection of goods and services displayed by participants at the Eagle Square, Abuja. The Expo spanned from March 16th - 20th, 2020which aimed to promote research and development (R&D) activities, Commercialization of R&D results/inventions and innovations, build partnerships between researchers and investors, and encourage the creation of innovative enterprises using Nigeria’s indigenous knowledge and Technology to produce marketable goods and services with major Government officials, agencies and private investors in attendance.
Also, the Honourable Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Christopher Ogbonnaya Onu visited various stands at the Expo. Including REA stand where he was briefed on the Agency’s various activities which included the implementation of the Federal Governments’ initiatives and the accomplishments of REA towards energizing over 2.5 million Nigerians with clean, safe, reliable and affordable electricity.
The Rural Electrification Agency (REA) participated in the expo for the first time with the aim of promoting the various initiatives of the Federal Government’s programme, to showcase the work that the Agency has been doing in implementing the programme by providing electricity access to unserved and underserved communities across Nigeria, and actively seek partnerships with donor agencies and key stakeholders for sustainability.
Subsequent editions of the Technology and Innovation Expo will be held simultaneously across the six Geo-Political zones to create more awareness and connecting innovators with investors across the nation.
